STORIES IN GLASS: ENAMELING AND STAINED GLASS ADVENTURES
ARROWMONT SCHOOL OF ART AND CRAFTS
JULY 25-30TH 2027
In this workshop, students will explore enameling on stained glass to integrate illustrations, writing, and fine detail into glasswork. Studio practice covers foundational stained glass fabrication—including pattern development, glass cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, and applying patinas or waxes. Alongside these structural techniques, students will experiment with preparing, applying, and firing various enamel formulations and application methods. Through a series of small projects and experimental studies, students will expand the narrative possibilities of stained glass and cultivate a personal visual language. Open to all skill levels.

In this workshop, we will explore the fluid boundaries between metal and glass through the process of enameling. Participants will learn foundational techniques: preparing copper and glass forms, sifting and applying enamel, painting, and firing, while exploring how these processes can move fluidly across materials. Through a series of small projects, you will investigate how visual language shifts between scales and disciplines, and how new connections emerge when techniques are allowed to travel between realms.
