ARTIST
BIO

Laura Mochales is a multidisciplinary artist and furniture maker working across wood, metal, glass, and enamel. Raised in Santiago, Chile, she creates visual narratives inspired by her Latin American background and Magical Realism. Her practice explores material interplay and the translation of techniques across craft disciplines, creating objects that sit between fine art, design, and functional furniture.

With a background in painting, color remains central to her work. She investigates ways to integrate color into furniture beyond surface application, incorporating stained glass, ceramic elements, and enameled metal inlays into wood and metal bodies.

Mochales holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design and has participated in residencies at Penland, Haystack, Pocosin Arts, Touchstone, and the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. She has also been invited to teach at Haystack, Peters Valley, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and Touchstone Center for Crafts.

She currently works between Chile and the United States, exploring material interconnection and contemporary craft.
